Here’s a second opportunity to watch the film that opened our tenth film festival with a world premiere: The Banjo Boys, the directorial debut of British Asian director, Johan Nayar, is screening for a second time on Saturday 25th October at 4pm at Riverside Studios.

This feature documentary tells the journey of Malawian duo, Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, otherwise known as Madalitso Band, and their encounter with fellow musician, Neil Nayar, which took them all from busking on the streets of Lilongwe to performing on world stages.

Opportunity arises from their collaboration and takes them on a journey from the dusty streets of Malawi to the stages of Zanzibar, Europe and the US, confronting the harsh realities of life as artists and embracing the transformative power of music along the way.

Opening short film: Shell Yeah dir. Sam Graff (USA, Documentary, 5m)

A ‘shell-ebration’ of music: A musician, his shells, and the surprising sounds they create.
