London Breeze Film Festival Opening Gala Film:

The Banjo Boys World Premiere + Q&A

London Breeze is thrilled to be opening its tenth edition festival programme with the World Premiere of The Banjo Boys, the directorial debut of British Asian director, Johan Nayar, who will join us for a Q&A following the screening.

This feature documentary tells the journey of Malawian duo, Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, otherwise known as Madalitso Band, and their encounter with fellow musician, Neil Nayar, which took them all from busking on the streets of Lilongwe to performing on world stages, including Glastonbury this summer and appearing on Cerys Matthews’ BBC Radio 6 show.

Opportunity arises from their collaboration and takes them on a journey from the dusty streets of Malawi to the stages of Zanzibar, Europe and the US, confronting the harsh realities of life as artists and embracing the transformative power of music along the way.

Opening short film: Shell Yeah dir. Sam Graff (USA, Documentary, 5m)

A ‘shell-ebration’ of music: A musician, his shells, and the surprising sounds they create.

Join us on the red carpet and enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbly to begin the festivities and celebrate 10 years of this film festival that champions emerging cinema talent from the UK and around the world.
