We have curated a programme of short films that reflects the word ‘community’ in its multitude of meanings, be they the D/deaf community (Familiar Stranger), the immigrant community (Ask Me Anything) or the community within a school (A Sisyphean Task).
These stories are about people finding connections in an often disconnected society, searching for their place in the world, to be understood and accepted- to belong. From a man erasing his true identity believing that it will help him to assimilate into his girlfriend’s circle of friends and family (Whiteface), to a boy seeking guidance and assurance from his uncle (Bury Your Nephew), to a tenacious team of trans footballers who become each other’s light in the dark of rising transphobia (We’ll Go Down in History).
