London Breeze Film Festival is delighted to once again be supporting Refugee Week and this year’s theme of ‘Community as a Superpower’. We begin the programme with The Walk by Tamara Kotevska 6.30pm on Tuesday 17th June.
The documentary follows the 3,000-mile journey made by 12ft puppet, Little Amal, and her puppeteers representing millions of displaced children and their urgent need for comfort, welcome, safety and a home. Asil, a real Syrian refugee child, tells her story through Little Amal as she imagines the journey that we see Little Amal take from the Syrian border in Turkey across Europe. This is a story of compassion and discovery. The Walk is not a typical documentary. It mixes vérité documentary with fantastical semi-scripted elements to create a fairytale for children and adults alike.
The screening will be followed by a free 30-minute interactive puppetry demonstration from the world renowned Little Angel Puppetry Theatre, who will bring along two puppets made and operated in similar ways to Little Amal who was made by the creators of the War Horse puppets.
