Itinerary:
9.00 – 10.00– Industry Breakfast – Members Bar, Olympic Studios. Join us to start the day with coffee croissants and networking in the beautiful surroundings of Olympic Studios, Church Rd, London SW13 9HL. Hosted by Charlotte Bogard McLeod (Screen Players & The Script Factory).
10.30 – My SMASH Media Pitching Presentation & Workshop – Hop on a bus or Lime Bike back along Castelnau to Hammersmith Bridge and the iconic Riverside Studios, Hammersmith, W6 9BN, to catch this 30min presentation on pitching to the industry. The five finalists of our documentary pitching competition will then have a 90min private workshop to prepare for their live pitches in front of a panel at 4.30pm.
11.00 – 13.00 – free time to catch our Spatial Storytelling immersive experience in the foyer gallery of the Riverside Studios. We have 16 pieces of VR/AR/XR from recent MA graduates of the Royal College of Art showing their work via VR headsets, screens and laptops.
13.00 – 13.50 – Writing & Directing for the Screen. Award-winning filmmaking duo, Christine Molloy (BALTIMORE, Rose Plays Julie, Future Tense), BAFTA nominated director/writer Alex Kayode-Kay (The Ballad of Olive Morris) and award-winning documentary filmmaker Tamana Ayazi (In Her Hands) are our special guests to discuss the auteur nature of being independent filmmakers.
14.00 – 14.50 – Funding Your Film. We are delighted to have multi award-winning documentary filmmaker and producer Jane Ray, founder The Whickers Awards in discussion with filmmakers David & Michael Groom whose debut feature, Between the Lights is having its London Premiere with LBFF on 27th October. They will be joined by Alex Kayode-Kaye, the BAFTA nominated director of The Ballad of Olive Morris and award-winning filmmaker, Maeve Murphy (Silent Grace/St Pancras Sunrise) to discuss ways and means of funding your film.
15.00 – 15.50 – Distributing & Marketing Your Film. Meet Sarah Mosses, founder and CEO of Together Films who is with us to discuss the work of a distributor and how best or when filmmakers should seek distribution. She is joined by London Breeze/Barnes Film Festival alumni, the award-winning filmmaker, Abid Khan, whose debut feature, Granada Nights, had a theatrical release in the UK and Spain following a successful festival run, and Mark Brennan, Festival Formula’s Festival Strategist and Liaison Leader.
16.10 – 17.20 – My SMASH Media Live Pitching Event. Be audience for this exciting pitching competition where five finalists will pitch their documentary proposals to a panel of expert from the industry including: writer, director, producer, Christine Molloy; Sarah Mosses, CEO of Together Films; and Chief Growth & Impact Officer of streaming platform WaterBear, Poppy Mason-Watts.
17.30 – 18.30 – Networking Drinks Reception – Industry Day Pass holders and panel guests are invited to join us in the cinema bar downstairs for complimentary drinks organised by our friends at Festival Formula.
